“Roots”

2020-2021

“Roots” is a series of drawings in the 60×80 cm format, created in 2020 and 2021 using pencil, crayons, pastels, gouache, charcoal, ink, watercolors, acrylic paints and goldfinger. It is a cycle created during the lockdown, inspired by nature, but like all my art, looking for an abstract form. Each drawing has been professionally scanned and prepared by me as an art print in 1:1 scale, in an edition of 10 copies.

“Forms of nature”

I am carefully following the process of creating a new cycle of drawings by Antoni Rodowicz. As in the artist’s earlier series, the seemingly abstract works hide fascinating references to forms of nature: stones, plants, trees, bird’s wings, caves, hollows, organic shapes, etc. All of them are characterized by thoughtful composition, color harmony of consciously limited scale, and extraordinary attention to detail. They are at the same time ascetic and rich in means of expression, echoing Japanese aesthetics and Durer’s precision, as if escaping from the scale between tradition and modernity. Despite the thematic diversity of the twenty drawings of the series, there is a sense of a coherent formula, applied by the artist conscious of his own idea and perfectly using his technique.
